Sweet and Sour Shrimp Recipe

Skip the takeout and have sweet and sour shrimp at home with this quick and easy recipe. Succulent shrimp are stir-fried with crisp vegetables and glazed in a tangy sweet and sour sauce.

For the Sweet and Sour Shrimp

shrimp, peeled and deveined

bell pepper, chopped

white onion, chopped

spring onions, for garnish
2 tsp
sesame seeds, for garnish

batch of sweet and sour sauce, see below
For the Sweet and Sour Sauce
1/3 cup(s)
tomato ketchup
1/3 cup(s)
pineapple juice
2 tblsp
rice wine vinegar
1 tblsp
soy sauce
2 tblsp
brown sugar
1 tsp
sesame oil
1/2 tsp
grated ginger
1 tblsp
cornstarch

Step 1

Make the sweet and sour sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, pineapple juice, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, ginger and cornstarch. Set aside.

In a wok over medium-high heat, heat the peanut oil.

Add the shrimp, onions and peppers to the wok. Stir for 2-3 minutes. Season lightly with salt. Set aside.

Add the sweet and sour sauce to the wok. Simmer until thickened.

Return the shrimp and vegetables into the wok and toss for about a minute.

Garnish with spring onions and sesame seeds. Serve with steamed rice. Enjoy!
