Ingredients

Servings:
4
3
garlic cloves, skins removed
2 tsp
cumin seeds
1 tsp
salt
3
large avocados, pitted and peeled
1
lime, juiced
2 tblsp
minced Roma tomato
2 tblsp
chopped cilantro
2 tblsp
minced jalapeño
2 tsp
minced red onion

Directions 5 steps | 20 Minutes

Step 1

Measure and prep all ingredients. In a mortar and pestle, place the garlic, cumin seeds and salt. Smash the ingredients together until a paste forms. (See notes 1.)

Step 2

Add the avocadoes to the bowl and gently smash each one against the side of the mortar. Continue until a fluffy texture is achieved.

Step 3

Mix in the lime juice. (See notes 2.)

Step 4

Fold in the minced Roma tomato, chopped cilantro, minced jalapeno and minced red onion with a spatula. Mix until well combined.

Step 5

Enjoy with chips or any Mexican cuisine!

Notes:

  1. If you do not have a mortar and pestle, a coffee grinder could be used to make the paste. You can also use a spoon to smash the avocadoes in a bowl, patting each one until it breaks up. We are trying to achieve a fluffy texture by breaking up the cells.
  2. Get the most juice out of your lime by massaging it on a counter first or microwaving it for about 30 seconds. This will double the yield.
