Step 1

Fill a martini glass with ice and water to keep it cold.

Step 2

Prepare the garnish. Peel an orange using a very sharp knife, cut it into a strip and insert in a toothpick.

Step 3

Fill a mixing glass with ice and add the rye whiskey, Averna and Angostura bitters. Mix well using a spoon.

Step 4

Strain and pour into the chilled martini glass.

Step 5

Garnish with orange peel. Enjoy!

I had never had a Black Manhattan prior to this and it may be a new fav! I even learned the difference between a Manhattan and an Old Fashioned thanks to the FAQ at the end of the recipe!
