Rating 5.0

This one pot mac and cheese is easier and tastier than the instant version. Shredded cheddar cheese melts with butter to form a glossy cheese sauce over tender macaroni pasta.

Ingredients

Servings:
6
5 cup(s)
water
2 tsp
salt
1 lb
macaroni
2 cup(s)
shredded cheddar cheese
4 tblsp
butter, cut into 4 pieces

Directions 4 steps | 15 Minutes

Step 1

In a stock pot or a large saucepan over high heat, add the five cups of water. Cover the pot (or the saucepan) and bring to a boil. (See notes 1.)

Step 2

Stir in the salt and macaroni. Lower the heat to a simmer and cook, uncovered, for 10 minutes, or until the macaroni is cooked through. Do not drain off the water left in the pot.

Step 3

Turn off the heat and add the shredded cheese and butter. Stir until the cheese and butter melts. Let sit for a few minutes to thicken before serving.

Step 4

Serve hot. Enjoy!

Notes:

  1. It's important to measure out the 5 cups of water for boiling the macaroni, as you won't be draining it off and it will become part of your sauce.
