Place the basmati rice in a bowl and thoroughly rinse the rice three times.
In a medium pot, add the rice, water, cloves, star anise, bay leaf, green peas, salt, ground turmeric, sugar and cumin seeds.
Turn the heat to medium and cook, uncovered for 20 minutes. (See notes 1.)
Reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, for 5 minutes.
Fluff and serve with curry, lentils, yogurt or pickles. Enjoy!
- Cooking time may vary. The rice may cook faster or slower depending on the size of the pot.
