Indian basmati rice is an aromatic side dish that pairs well with any lentil or curry dish. Basmati rice has a beautiful flavor because of its aging process and interestingly, the least sticky rice.

Directions 5 steps | 30 Minutes

Step 1

Place the basmati rice in a bowl and thoroughly rinse the rice three times.

In a medium pot, add the rice, water, cloves, star anise, bay leaf, green peas, salt, ground turmeric, sugar and cumin seeds.

Step 3

Turn the heat to medium and cook, uncovered for 20 minutes. (See notes 1.)

Reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, for 5 minutes.

Notes:

  1. Cooking time may vary. The rice may cook faster or slower depending on the size of the pot.
