Ingredients

Servings:
4
1
large loaf of unsliced sourdough or boule
1/2 cup(s)
unsalted butter, cubed, see notes
4
garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 cup(s)
shredded mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup(s)
freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup(s)
chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Directions 11 steps | 35 Minutes

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Measure and prep all ingredients.

Step 2

In a microwave-safe bowl, add the salted butter and minced garlic. Microwave on low heat in 30-second increments until the butter is melted, about 1-2 minutes. (See notes)

Step 3

Using a bread knife, slice the bread in 1-inch diagonal cuts, being careful to stop about a ¼-inch from the bottom, to create a crisscross pattern.

Step 4

Wrap the bottom half of the bread with aluminum foil.

Step 5

Using a pastry or silicone brush, brush the garlic butter in between each slice of bread. Scatter the remaining chunks of garlic in between the slices.

Step 6

Place the shredded mozzarella cheese in between each slice.

Step 7

Cover the top of the bread with another piece of aluminum foil. Bake the bread for 15 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the bread from the oven and the top piece of aluminum foil.

Step 9

Sprinkle the top of the bread with Parmesan cheese. Return the bread to the oven and bake for another 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

Step 10

Top with chopped fresh parsley.

Step 11

Serve immediately. Enjoy!

Notes:

  • High-quality salted butter is important in this recipe as it imparts most of the flavor.
  • Be careful not to overheat the butter as it will explode in the microwave, causing a butter splattered mess.
