Brown sugar sweet potatoes use only a few ingredients and complement a wide variety of meals. These candied sweet potatoes are sweetened with maple syrup and brown sugar and lightly spiced with cinnamon for an easy side dish. This dish can also easily be made vegan by swapping the butter for plant-based butter.

large sweet potatoes

butter or plant-based butter
1/4 cup(s)
brown sugar
1/4 cup(s)
maple syrup
1 tsp
cinnamon
1 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
finely ground black pepper

Preheat oven to 400°F. Measure and prep all ingredients.

In a large pot with a steamer basket, steam the sweet potatoes for 20 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool.

Once the sweet potatoes are cooled, peel and cut into quarters. Place sweet potatoes in a 9x13-inch baking pan.

In a small saucepan, place the butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt and pepper.

Over medium heat, melt the butter and cook until the brown sugar melts.
