These cheesy mashed potatoes are super simple and delicious. Cooking the potatoes for a couple of minutes in a dry pan after boiling gets rid of excess water from the boiling process.

shredded sharp white cheddar cheese
salt and pepper, to taste

Step 1

In a large saucepan or stockpot, bring the water to a boil.

While the water comes to a boil, peel the potatoes and rinse off any dirt.

Slice them in half lengthwise and then cut the halves into three to four pieces.

Add the salt and potatoes to the boiling water.

Cook until the potato pieces fall apart when you stab them with a fork, 16-20 minutes. Drain the potatoes.

Put the potatoes back in the pot. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring and mashing with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes.

Turn off the heat and stir in the butter.

Mash the potatoes to your desired texture with a potato masher.
