Ingredients

Servings:
4
8 cup(s)
water
4
russet potatoes
2 tblsp
kosher salt
4 tblsp
butter
2 cup(s)
shredded sharp white cheddar cheese
salt and pepper, to taste

Directions 9 steps | 35 Minutes

Step 1

In a large saucepan or stockpot, bring the water to a boil.

Step 2

While the water comes to a boil, peel the potatoes and rinse off any dirt.

Step 3

Slice them in half lengthwise and then cut the halves into three to four pieces.

Step 4

Add the salt and potatoes to the boiling water.

Step 5

Cook until the potato pieces fall apart when you stab them with a fork, 16-20 minutes. Drain the potatoes.

Step 6

Put the potatoes back in the pot. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring and mashing with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes.

Step 7

Turn off the heat and stir in the butter.

Step 8

Mash the potatoes to your desired texture with a potato masher.

Step 9

Stir in the cheese and season with salt and pepper to taste. Enjoy!
