25 Best Oreo Flavors Ranked in 2025

Original is considered the best of all the Oreo flavors

We want to open this article with a much-needed acknowledgment of the elephant in the room: to some, there’s only one Oreo flavor worth talking about.

Purists will insist that Milk’s Favorite Cookie is at its best in its original form. After all, it didn’t become the world’s bestselling cookie, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, without a solid concept to build from.

But with Oreo constantly expanding its universe of flavors, and new ones popping up for seemingly every occasion, there’s a conversation to be had here. The question of the best Oreo flavors is inevitable.

The world is changing. New Oreo flavors are proliferating left and right, and you’ve got this handy Oreo flavors ranking to guide you. So don’t fight it — surrender to the Oreo wave and give some of these 25 popular Oreo flavors a shot.

How Many Oreo Flavors Are There?

If you tally every Oreo product that’s currently available, you’ll end up with 34 official Oreo flavors. That includes all Oreo flavors, regardless of type: classic Oreo cookies, of course, but also the brand’s additional lines of Oreo Thins, Oreo Cakesters and Gluten-Free Oreos.

However, the list of Oreo flavors is always in flux. Seasonal and limited-time-only flavors appear regularly, and older ones are frequently discontinued. And we’re talking any occasion at all: even Oreo Day on March 6th might see some new releases.

When asking “How many Oreo flavors are there?”, you may also want to include Oreo-branded products like ice cream, which are produced in collaboration with other brands. In that case, the number will go up by another 10 to 20 products.

Another thing to note: not all Oreo flavors or products are listed on the official website. You’ll sometimes find specialty or discontinued flavors in stores or be able to order rare Oreo flavors online. So, keep your eyes peeled and remember that the official product list isn’t always fully updated.

The 25 Best Flavors of Oreo Ranked

25. Toffee Crunch

Let’s start this Oreo flavors ranking with a fairly uncontroversial last-place finisher. As Oreo gets more ambitious with its flavor profiles, it isn’t surprising to see the brand take inspiration from a popular dessert like toffee. After all, toffee is often coated in chocolate, isn’t it? So this seems like it should be an instant hit.

Instead, it’s just a little too sweet. While you get the caramel taste you came for, the overwhelming sweetness is too much for some. Good toffee needs the balance of salty butter and often neutral nuts, and this Oreo flavor has neither.

24. Gluten-Free Golden Oreo

The Golden Oreo is relatively inoffensive: it’s basically just a vanilla version of the original. Clearly, we’re on board with the Golden Oreo around here. But the crunchier texture of the gluten-free version, combined with a weird paucity of cream, makes this a much less enjoyable Oreo flavor than the original.

23. Black and White Cookie

Never mind that an Oreo is, by definition, a black and white cookie. This Oreo flavor takes the classic New York deli treat as inspiration, and we’re not super hot on the result.

The original black and white cookie is a cakey dessert with sweet but not overpowering chocolate and vanilla frosting. This one just kind of tastes like straight-up cake frosting — much too sweet for many, and definitely not a strong imitation of the beloved dessert.

22. Fudge-Covered

We feel strongly that this should have been the best Oreo flavor. How many candy stores make and sell chocolate-coated Oreos that taste amazing? But alas, it misses the mark.

The chocolate coating is much too sweet and adds nothing to the original cookie other than more sweetness, which it really didn’t need. Too much of a good thing is the downfall of many an Oreo flavor.

21. Birthday Cake

This is one of the nicer-looking Oreo flavors, for sure. Those sprinkle-inspired flecks of color make this look like something you really want to enjoy. Unfortunately, this is a rare case of the cream overpowering the cookie.

While the Original flavor shines because the cream and cookie harmonize so well, Birthday Cake flops because the cream is too thick, too sweet and too birthday-cake-buttercream for the subtle perfection of the chocolate cookie. Whoops.

20. Gluten-Free Mint

This is a huge step up from the Gluten-Free Golden Oreo, so props for that. It helps that it doesn’t suffer from that weird cream-to-cookie ratio. While it won’t climb the ranking any higher because it’s still a little drier and crunchier than a traditional Oreo, this is a solid choice for gluten-free fans.

Would you pick it over regular Mint? No. But if you’re gluten-free, you can definitely still enjoy most of what makes Mint Oreos so beloved.

19. Java Chip

Chocolate and coffee are a storied combination. Unfortunately, like many novelty Oreo flavors, the brand overshoots the sugar content here, and the essence of coffee is a bit overpowered by its sweetness. While this is still a pretty solid flavor overall, it’s more for fans of the sugared-up Starbucks Frappuccino kind of coffee than for purists.

18. Dark Chocolate

You would think that a flavor like this should be among the best in the lineup. Thick, fudgy, chocolate-forward cream? Sign us up. And while there’s nothing wrong with this Oreo flavor, it never really lives up to its enormous potential.

Sadly, it’s not much stronger than the normal Chocolate Oreo and lacks depth of flavor, and that just feels like a missed opportunity. That said, it’s still not half-bad.

17. Gluten-Free Original

As we’ve established, gluten-free Oreo flavors are largely pretty good. If you’re gluten-free, they’ll take the edge off of your cravings for sure.

So while this one’s ranking gets tanked by the inevitable comparison to the perfection of the non-gluten-free original, it’s still going to give you most of what you want. Not as creamy and a tad crunchier, but still pretty solid.

16. Space Dunk

This Oreo flavor sort of looks like it should make anyone over the age of seven sick to their stomach, but that’s part of its charm. The neon-bright color of the marshmallow-based cream is much more off-putting than its enjoyable flavor, and the addition of popping candy in the cream was a nice touch.

Is it a bit much? Yes. But we have a much higher tolerance for too much sugar in an Oreo flavor when the presentation comes right out and announces it than we do when we’re expecting the flavor of, say, coffee.

15. Chocolate Hazelnut

Nutella is such a beloved flavor that it’s almost inevitable there would be an Oreo flavor to capitalize on it. And this one is better than you’d think.

You get some of the saltiness of hazelnut, and the chocolate flavor is nice and strong. That salty note balances out the sweetness, something that a lot of other Oreo flavors desperately need.

Will you get the nutty flavor you’re craving? Maybe not. But it’s still a thoroughly enjoyable Oreo flavor.

14. Lemon Oreo Thins

Fans seem to be of two minds when it comes to Oreo Thins. Some find them disappointing, a lackluster low-calorie version of the real thing that just isn’t worth the loss of substance and thinner layer of cream.

Others treat them as a dessert all their own, eschewing comparison to embrace their unique crunch. Viewed through the second lens, Lemon Oreo Thins are a great snack. Their subtler flavors lend themselves well to a thinner cookie.

13. Tiramisù Oreo Thins

Tiramisù is another popular representative of the Oreo Thins line, and it comes off surprisingly well. This pick does coffee flavor better than Java Chip Oreos, and the delicate cinnamon notes are kind of perfect.

Would you ever expect this flavor to be a winner? Probably not. But these are cookies that you wouldn’t feel embarrassed to serve to guests. A sophisticated Oreo if there ever was one, even if not for everybody.

12. Churro

For all our bagging on too-sweet novelty Oreo flavors, we love it when one of those crazy concepts actually works. Cinnamon-sugar is a pretty easy flavor to get right, and the cinnamon-sugar crystals in the cream help to keep it from reaching the same heights of overpowering sweetness as some of its novelty-Oreo competitors.

11. S’moreos

We would personally prefer to roast a marshmallow and smush it between the halves of a regular Oreo. You definitely won’t be getting the same marshmallow flavor from S’moreos.

But this Oreo flavor’s resemblance to a real s’more (or lack thereof) doesn’t keep it from being tasty. The graham cracker-flavored cookie tastes great with the chocolate cream.

10. Dirt Cake

Chocolate Oreo flavors can be hit or miss, but this one definitely hits the mark. Inspired by the chocolate pudding dirt-and-worms dessert we all ate at least once in kindergarten, Dirt Cake uses a richer, creamier chocolate cream than other flavors.

There are even Oreo crumbles mixed in to imitate the original. It may seem improbable, but this is one of the better novelty Oreos for chocolate lovers.

9. Mint

Mint and chocolate is many people’s favorite sweet flavor pairing. If it’s also yours, there’s little to be disappointed by in this Oreo flavor.

This Oreo flavor has got everything you love about the original flavor, plus a rich mint cream that manages to avoid the common pitfall of tasting like toothpaste.

It’s really only ranked out of the top five because mint is not everybody’s favorite — if you don’t love it, you hate it, and thus these Oreos too.

8. Chocolate

Think of this as a variant of the original Oreo rather than its own Oreo flavor, and you get the gist. Chocolate isn’t doing anything revolutionary here, but it does its part.

It’s the chocolate ice cream to Oreo Original’s vanilla. If you like chocolate, pick up a box of these for blissfully predictable deliciousness.

7. Peanut Butter

Here’s another polarizing combination for you. Chocolate and peanut butter are iconic together, and the cream in this Oreo flavor hits all the right salty and nutty peanut butter notes.

If you’re not a big fan, though, Peanut Butter Oreos have pretty much nothing to offer you. Plus, many still prefer the classic option of pairing original Oreos with real peanut butter, with some who love that combo finding this replication a little too artificial.

6. Lemon

It’s the Oreo flavors that don’t start on a chocolate cookie that tend to get us worried, but Lemon avoids that pitfall. It’s an Oreo only in shape and texture, and we love the bright lemon flavor almost as much as the original.

So many Oreo flavors fall prey to an excess of sugar that it’s a relief to bite into one that’s a little bit tart.

5. Extra Stuf Thins

One of the common complaints about Oreo Thins is that they’re lacking in the cream department. If that’s the only thing keeping you from enjoying them, rejoice: there’s an extra-stuffed variant with the same crunch but a lot more cream.

If you’re new to Oreo Thins and not sure you’ll enjoy them, start here: the amount of cream used in Extra Stuf Thins is a bit closer to the original.

4. Golden Oreo

A simple but often slept-on Oreo flavor that really doesn’t deserve to be disparaged the way it is. Seriously, what do people have against vanilla? A Golden Oreo is essentially just a vanilla sandwich cookie. What’s not to love about that?

We get that people are attached to the original, but if all you want is an enjoyable snacking experience, Golden Oreos have just as much to offer.

3. Original Oreo Thins

We talked earlier about the two opinions on Oreo Thins, and if you haven’t guessed by now, we’re in the “fan” category. Sometimes you don’t want something as dense and sugar-packed as a serving of Oreos, and that’s where Oreo Thins come in.

The best parts of the original Oreos are all still here, and the thinner cookie makes you feel like you’re not spiking your blood sugar to astronomical levels even though you totally still are. We don’t know about you, but we’re pretty into that around here.

2. Original Double Stuf

You definitely already know which Oreo flavor is going to come in first, mostly because second and third place are just variations on it. This is the Oreo flavor for anyone who ever ate the cream before the cookie and then found themselves wishing there were more of it. Ten out of 10, no notes.

1. Original

“Oreo” is a brand, but it’s also an image: a thin layer of vanilla cream between chocolate sandwich cookies, preferably next to a glass of milk. It’s a part of our cultural lexicon.

And no matter how many Oreo flavors are released, the original will still be the favorite for baking adventures, gas station snacks and idle snacking.

Classic Oreos have been there for you all your life, and they’ll be there every time. How could we possibly award the title of best Oreo flavor to anyone else?

In an ever-changing world of new and strange Oreo flavors, it can be fun to reevaluate our idea of what an Oreo can (and maybe should) be.

But it’s a good rule of thumb that simple is best. An Oreo, after all, is a profoundly simple cookie — and in our humble opinion, it’s best kept that way.
