The best popsicles are made with real fruit juice

When the hazy days of summer arrive and you’re looking for the best popsicles to enjoy in the sunshine, this guide will become your go-to. We’ve rated 15 of the best popsicles on the market to help you find the ultimate pops for summer snacking.

With products so loaded with nostalgia, we had to be very strict about choosing the best popsicles. While we based our calculations partly on availability and value for money, we’ve focused on taste and nutritional composition as the guiding principles.

Ironically, the debate about these frozen treats got quite heated, but eventually, we managed to make a ranking of our 15 favorites. Load up on the paper napkins, change out of those white pants and let’s unwrap the best popsicles for your summer refreshment.

15 Top-Rated Popsicle Brands Ranked

15. Van Holten’s Pickle-Ice Freeze Pops

This is a real love-it-or-hate-it pick of popsicles, but in the interests of fairness and diversity, we decided to include Van Holten’s Pickle-Ice Freeze Pops on our list. Made from frozen pickle juice, these are completely unique among our best popsicles.

The savory, sharp tang is refreshing and they’re a fun break from the customary sweet, fruity flavors usually associated with popsicles. They're also a great pool party food, but they ultimately took last place.

14. Popsicle Sugar-Free Tropicals

A lower sugar slant on the beloved childhood favorite, Sugar-Free Tropical Popsicles are available in three flavors — Hawaiian Pineapple, Tropical Orange and Caribbean Punch. If you’re on a low-sugar diet due to conditions such as diabetes, these are some of the best popsicles. Plus, each one contains just 15 calories.

Surely the original brand should top our list of the best popsicles? The flavors pack a punch, but some of us found that the reliance on artificial sweeteners made these overly saccharine. The texture was also polarising among the team — some loved the slushy texture, but others would have preferred a longer-lasting, firmer bite.

13. Bomb Pop Original

These rocket-shaped ice pops will immediately ignite warm feelings of nostalgia, but how do they compare to the other best popsicle brands? Each treat has three bold stripes of flavor: cherry, lemon and blue raspberry, which are satisfyingly separated into clean lines.

The texture of these is slightly softer than you might expect, which makes for a smoother eating experience. However, the brand’s reliance on bioengineered ingredients, such as high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors, keeps these from reaching any higher in our list of best popsicles.

12. Annie’s Organic Fruit Pops

Annie’s may be more familiar to you for rabbit-shaped crackers and instant mac and cheese, but they’re also a well-established pick among the best popsicles.

The Organic Fruit Pops are made from organic fruit juice, cane sugar and limited other ingredients, including citric acid and natural flavorings. Each pop contains only 5 grams of added sugar, making these a good choice for a summer BBQ where you want some healthier options available.

Annie’s Pops are available in an assortment of flavors as well. Grape Galore was our favorite, although Cheerful Cherry wasn’t far behind. The taste isn’t as intense as some of the other best popsicle brands we’ve highlighted here, but it’s still light and refreshing. However, a slight tendency to icy clumps means that these popsicles remain in the latter half of our list.

11. GoodPop

Founded by a Texas college student who wanted to create healthier frozen treats, GoodPop uses certified organic ingredients. These include fruit juice, cane sugar, agave and guar gum. As this company produces some of the healthiest ice cream on the market, it's a top pick if you want an ice cream brand that offers great treats without derailing your diet.

GoodPop produces a range of popsicle flavors to appeal to children and more grown-up palates. The Orange n’ Cream edition has a vacation vibe as coconut is used instead of dairy milk, adding a tropical lean to the taste.

Strawberry Lemonade was another high scorer among our team, with a clean and fresh feel. We admired the imagination of Hibiscus Mint but found the combination of sharp mint and floral sweetness a little jarring.

We noticed that these popsicles melted slightly faster than some of the other best popsicles here. However, we loved the smooth texture and clean flavor profiles.

10. JonnyPops Organic Frozen Bars

If you’re searching for the best popsicles for kids, then JonnyPops Frozen Bars definitely deserve space in your cooler. Plus, if you’re looking for fun pool party ideas, the sticks make excellent photo props for cute miniature placards.

Certified organic, these popsicles are made from a combination of fruit, including lime, orange, raspberry and blueberry. We loved the look of the Blue Wave JonnyPops in particular, as they come in a subtle gradient that goes from icy white to electric blue. The Strawberries and Cream flavor was another standout and has the luxurious feel of a frozen smoothie.

Each JonnyPop contains between 9 and 11 grams of added sugar, but the addition of cream will add a few calories. We didn’t mind this as it made it feel more like an indulgent dessert. As a bonus, there are no artificial additives here and ingredients center on fruit and cane sugar only.

9. Sprouts Frozen Fruit Bars

If you don’t mind getting caught in the rain, then Sprouts Piña Colada Frozen Fruit Bars are the best popsicles for you. In fact, they’re a good choice for anyone who enjoys the tropical combination of pineapple and coconut.

Made with real fruit and containing no added flavors or colors, these are the best popsicles to reach for when heading to the beach. We especially loved the texture of these pops — there are real pieces of coconut in the mix, which add a nice hint of chewiness.

These are also some of the best popsicles for those avoiding lactose, as the recipe is entirely dairy-free. Plus, there are other flavors available, including lime, mango and strawberry.

8. Outshine Fruit Bars

Next up in our rundown of the best popsicles are Outshine Fruit Bars, a freezer favorite that’s widely available at grocery stores.

They come in an assortment of flavors including strawberry, watermelon, coconut, lime and pineapple. There are also mini bar multipacks, which are ideal for after-school snacks. Each Outshine Fruit Bar is made with real fruit juice and contains no GMO ingredients, high fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors and colors.

These Bars have a creamier texture than some of the other best popsicles on our list, but deliver a tasty burst of fresh fruit. Each Bar contains around 15 grams of added sugar, which is slightly above the average for popsicles on this list. However, each fruity flavor also delivers approximately 10% of your recommended daily allowance of vitamin C.

7. Open Nature Fruit Bars

For those steering clear of artificial additives, these are some of the best popsicles around. Made from fruit purée and a blend of vegetable and fruit juice, along with cane sugar, water and stabilizers such as guar gum, Open Nature Bars have no artificial colors or flavors.

We tried the strawberry version and found that the flavor had a real burst of berry intensity. Watermelon was a lighter, fruitier option that would be very welcome on a hot day. We also love that Open Nature includes vegetable juice as an ingredient, adding extra nutrients to your frozen treat.

6. Deebee's Organics SuperFruit Freezie Pops

Made from 100% fruit, and nothing but fruit, Deebee's Organic Freezie Pops are certified organic and non-GMO verified. Each one contains a mix of fruit juices and guar gum for stability.

Every multipack contains a mix of flavors: Cherry, Watermelon, Peach and Mixed Berry. They’re purchased unfrozen to be shaken and mixed at home. Top tip: don’t separate the tubes before you start shaking, else you’ll need all hands on deck to get them freezer-ready.

We thought these were one of the best popsicles for a clean ingredient profile and fruity taste. However, they’re not as strongly flavored as some of the other brands here, so they had to be relegated to sixth position on our best popsicle list.

5. Chloe’s Fruit Pops

One of the best gourmet popsicles, Chloe’s was founded by a former attorney who struggled to find healthy frozen treats during pregnancy. This resulted in the formation of Chloe’s Fruit Pops, which are made from a very minimal collection of natural ingredients.

Take the mango edition, for example. Made from only mango, lemon juice, cane sugar and water, these little sticks have a big flavor. In fact, these were some of the very best popsicles we tasted.

We’d recommend allowing these pops to warm up slightly before enjoying. A very slight melt allows the flavor of the mango to shine through, but that does have the secondary effect of making the pops sticky to eat. Trust us, it’s a price worth paying!

4. Trader Joe’s Organic Freezer Pops

Trader Joe’s is famous for its frozen aisle and produces some of the best grocery store ice cream, so we had high hopes for these Organic Freezer Pops. Luckily, we weren’t disappointed.

Serving up a serious side of nostalgia, these are the best popsicles to keep in the freezer for after-school refreshers. Each pack contains 10 Pops in three flavors: Berry, Cherry Limeade and Orange.

The taste of this Trader Joe’s ice cream delivers the old school vibes you’ll remember from popsicles of yore, but these have a lot more substance. They’re made from 100% fruit juice and come in an easy-to-eat sleeve.

Before freezing, we’d recommend giving the box a quick shake. This will prevent the fruit concentrate from settling, which can lead to an uneven freeze.

3. Talenti Mini Sorbetto Bars

No 4th of July party is complete without a frozen treat, and these are some of the best gourmet popsicles to enjoy while watching the fireworks.

One of the immediate factors that sets these apart from the rest of our best popsicles is the exceptional texture. They’re smoother than a traditional lolly and have a consistency closer to a light sorbet than an icy popsicle. These Talenti ice cream flavors are real highlights, too. Roman Raspberry is tart and vibrant, while Alphonso Mango delivers a tropical hit that’s perfect for summer.

Talenti contains limited ingredients, helping to create a clean and balanced flavor. There are no artificial flavors, only fruit purée, cane sugar and water, plus carob gum to stabilize the mix. They’re on the diminutive side, which makes them perfect for kids.

2. 365 Fruit Bars

Taking the silver medal position in our rundown of the best popsicles is 365 Fruit Bars. These are some of the best popsicles for sheer delicious taste. They’re also made from clean ingredients, including real fruit, cane sugar and natural stabilizers such as guar gum.

We were particular fans of the strawberry flavor, but the Caribbean Mix was also tropi-cool and fresh. The texture here is smooth, rather than icy, with no hint of graininess. As an added benefit, 365 Fruit Bars are widely available at your local Whole Foods Market.

1. Helado’s Mini Cream Paletas

If you think the best popsicles combine fruity flavors and a creamy texture, then we’d have to agree with you. That’s why this pick for the title of best popsicle scored so highly with us. Okay, so we have to come clean and tell you that Helado’s Mini Cream Paletas are actually made from an ice cream base blended with real fruit.

They contain no artificial ingredients or high fructose corn syrup and each bar has around 10 grams of sugar, so they compare favorably to our other picks of the best popsicles. The ice cream mix delivers a rich texture and a velvety mouthfeel, which we highly rated.

A Helado’s Cream Paletas variety pack includes an assortment of the following flavors: strawberry, coconut and mango. We especially loved the mango flavor and thought these were just the right size for a small after-dinner treat or afternoon snack.

What Is the Best Popsicle Brand?

There’s nothing better on a hot day than a fruity ice cream, but which is the premier popsicle for your freezer? Everyone has different needs, so ultimately, there won’t be one choice among the best popsicles to suit everyone.

We loved the full-on fruit flavor of Chloe’s Pops but thought that Talenti Mini Sorbetto Bars delivered the greatest texture out of all of the options on our list of the best popsicles.

Those seeking a fruity profile with clean ingredients will also love Deebee’s Freezie Pops. Additionally, Trader Joe’s Organic Freezer Pops are a great value freezer filler for after-school snacks.

Lastly, GoodPops are ideal for a creamy, tropical hit for an after-dinner treat. While those seeking a more indulgent, creamier cool snack might just think Helados are the best popsicles, as we did.

What Are the Healthiest Popsicles?

The best popsicles for those seeking healthier options are made from a base of natural ingredients, such as fruit juice or fruit purée. Many include other natural ingredients, such as guar gum, as these act as stabilizers and help to give a firm texture.

We’d recommend scanning through the ingredient list and avoiding popsicles with bioengineered ingredients like high fructose corn syrup. According to a study published by the University of Oxford, consumption of high fructose corn syrup has been linked to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, so you’ll likely want to avoid this ingredient if you’re searching for the healthiest popsicles.

You could even consider making your own healthy popsicles, such as rainbow popsicles or lemon blueberry boba popsicles, so you can control the ingredients.

Several brain freezes later, we’ve come to the end of our rundown of the best popsicles. Helado’s clinched the number one spot for us, but we know everyone has their own ideas on the very best popsicles out there.

Whether you fancy something fruity and reviving to cool you down or you’re looking for an indulgent treat to enjoy by the pool, these are the best popsicles to keep by your side this summer. And if you fancy a pickle popsicle to go with your summer grill, hey, we’ll be right there with you.
