The 12 Most Popular Frozen Waffles Ranked

12. Great Value Homestyle Waffles

When you’re looking for the best frozen waffles, a low cost doesn’t always equate to a bad waffle experience. Don’t discount Great Value Homestyle Waffles just for their price, because they seriously surprised us in the flavor and texture departments.

We found that these waffles toasted perfectly, and they developed a satisfying crunchy exterior that held up against a generous syrup pour. They were also sturdier than expected, with thick ridges and shallow pockets that allowed for an even crisp with no undercooked or overcooked sections.

If we have to give a con, it would be the flavor — we liked that there was a hint of butter there, but overall, the taste leaned on the mild side. The inside of the waffle was also a little dry, and there’s a hint of synthetic-tasting sugar.

As easily one of the cheapest waffle brands on this list of the best frozen waffles, you can expect a few shortcuts with the ingredients, so these certainly aren’t the healthiest waffles either. But if you’re looking for a no-fuss waffle that can handle plenty of toppings, this entry from one of the country’s cheapest grocery stores, Walmart, solidly earns its place among the best frozen waffles. There are better waffles out there, but there are also plenty of worse ones.

11. Wegmans Organic Multi-Grain Waffles

If you want to buy the best frozen waffles that both kids and adults will enjoy, the Organic Multi-Grain Waffles from Wegmans are a great choice. They're also a decent choice if you're looking for healthy frozen waffles.

We found that these waffles — made with rye, wheat bran and barley flour — had a stronger grain flavor compared to most multi-grain options, but they didn’t have an intense bitterness that can also accompany these ingredients.

Like most of the best frozen waffles made from multi-grain ingredients, these had a slightly denser texture, but we found that this was actually a satisfying addition to the waffle experience.

They also had a great chew, held up well against a tower of toppings, and provided an energized and satisfied feeling without the dreaded energy crash that often follows eating waffles made with refined flours and sugar.

We additionally liked that these waffles were just as good plain as they were topped, which speaks volumes for their standalone warm and nutty flavor. However, they didn’t crisp up as well as some of the other options on this list of the best frozen waffles.

For the price and quality — coupled with the health benefits of adding extra fiber to your breakfast — Wegman’s has definitely earned its spot on this list.

10. Brazi Bites Homestyle Waffles

Following a gluten-free diet but still got a hankering for the best frozen waffles? Brazi Bites Homestyle Waffles are a unique contender on this list of the best frozen waffles because they use tapioca starch, which results in gluten-free waffles that are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.

Best of all: Unlike most gluten-free waffle brands, these waffles toast well and don’t fall apart when you load them up with butter and other toppings.

But what are the drawbacks? While we liked that they packed more protein into each waffle than many competing waffle brands — thanks to additions like whey protein isolate and whole milk — we found that the flavor was somewhat polarizing.

Tapioca starch is a common replacement for wheat flour in many gluten-free products, but it can come with a slightly sour or off taste. For some people, large amounts of tapioca starch can even cause digestive discomfort.

Despite the cons, these waffles still earned their spot on this list of the best frozen waffles for their satisfying texture and thoughtful, high-quality ingredients.

Interestingly, we also found that these frozen waffles were a great gluten-free substitute for bread in breakfast sandwiches and with other bread-heavy brunch food ideas. The brand even makes a cheese version if you want a super savory gluten-free waffle sandwich.

9. 365 by Whole Foods Market Homestyle Waffles

The Homestyle Waffles from 365 by Whole Foods Market are one of the more divisive options on this list of the best frozen waffles. However, the consensus is that they’re a reliable choice when they’re one of the only options and you don’t want to forsake your favorite breakfast food ideas for the weekend.

The primary drawback of this product is that the texture was a bit dry on the inside, despite a perfectly crisp texture on the outside. Additionally, the flavor leaned heavily towards wheat, bordering on bitter.

However, despite lacking the satisfaction factor we wanted from all the best frozen waffles, they did have some redeeming qualities. We liked that their substantial build could hold up to a generous amount of toppings. The slightly bitter flavor was also easily masked by toppings like nut butter, Speculoos cookie butter, berries, maple syrup and honey.

While they don't perform great as standalone waffles, 365 is one of the best frozen waffle brands when you need a strong breakfast base. Their drier texture also means they don't turn to mush at the first sign of a pat of butter.

All in, they may appeal to fans of clean eating for their simple ingredients list and slightly higher fiber count than most mainstream waffles, but for most, the texture and flavor probably don’t justify their spot as one of the best frozen waffles in your freezer.

8. Birch Benders Protein Waffles

Birch Benders is one of the best frozen waffle brands to opt for if you’re prioritizing nutrition from your waffles, and both their Protein Waffles and Paleo Waffles are standout choices among the best frozen waffles on the market.

We liked that the Protein Waffles come with a solid 12 grams of protein per two waffles and the added sugars and sodium are kept relatively low, too. We also appreciated that these waffles crisped up well and came with a neutral, slightly sweet flavor that worked with both sweet and savory toppings.

However, the low fiber content is a bit of a drawback, so make sure you opt for high-fiber toppings like berries, chia seed jams and nut butters to help with satiety.

Birch Benders also sells Paleo Waffles, which take a grain-free approach with a slightly higher fat content and more fiber per waffle. We found that neither version tasted “diet-y,” and both toasted well without becoming too dry and crunchy.

Still, with the Birch Benders Paleo Waffles only offering 3 grams of protein per two waffles, both waffle varieties left something to be desired, and neither came with the standout flavor expected from the best frozen waffles.

7. Kashi 7-Grain Waffles

Kashi 7-Grain Waffles are the go-to choice for many who crave a breakfast that’s both hearty and healthy. These whole-grain frozen waffles are packed with a mix of oats, rye, brown rice, hard red wheat, barley, triticale and buckwheat. This composition results in a flavor that leans earthy with a subtle sweetness.

We found that the product’s strength lies primarily in its balance; the waffles are light enough to be topped with plenty of syrup, fruits and nut butter without making a meal that will weigh you down.

Nutritionally, these waffles are a strong contender for the title of healthiest frozen waffles. They contain 3 grams of protein and 6 grams of fiber per two waffles, which makes them one of the best frozen waffles for those looking to boost their fiber intake at breakfast time.

We additionally liked that Kashi 7-Grain Waffles walk the line between “good-for-you” and “these taste like a treat.” While the grain-forward aftertaste was off-putting for some testers and a few found the texture to be too dry for their liking, most agreed that the flavor, crispiness and clean ingredients list made them one of the best whole grain options on the market.

6. Van’s Power Grains Original Waffles

If you care about good ingredients and even better flavor when choosing the best frozen waffles at the store, Power Grains Original Waffles from Van’s are a standout choice. With a good balance of protein and whole grains and without any animal products like milk or eggs — plus no artificial anything — these waffles are ideal for when you’re serving breakfast to your vegan friends or want a simple and reliable post-gym snack during the week.

We found that these waffles had a better flavor than many of the previously covered frozen waffles that use whole grain ingredients. This is primarily due to the inclusion of cinnamon, which adds a warming and spiced sweetness.

These waffles didn’t veer into overly sweet territory either, and the additional 10 grams of plant-based protein per serving made them pretty satisfying.

However, the main reason Van’s products aren’t among the top five best frozen waffles is because of the texture. We found that the waffles tended to get soft quickly — even when initially toasted to a crisp — and they would become overly soggy when drizzled with syrup.

There was only one way to fix this: By heating them in the microwave and then the toaster, they were fully defrosted before being crisped up, which resulted in a much sturdier waffle under the syrup.

5. Eggo Homestyle Waffles

Eggo has to have some of the most popular frozen waffles on the market, and this popularity hasn’t waned since they first started loading grocery store freezers back in 1953. With plenty of nostalgia loaded into these waffles, you’re bound to point them out in a blind taste test; that unmistakable “Eggo” flavor is mildly sweet, slightly buttery and just a tad batter-tasting.

But what about the texture? These are some of the best frozen waffles to choose if you value a crispy outside and a soft, fluffy inside above all else. However, the ingredients list is full of words you most likely won’t find on the shelves of your own kitchen pantry, so in terms of their health factor, Eggo leaves a lot of room for improvement.

We liked that these waffles work great as both a blank canvas for all your favorite toppings and as a heat-and-eat snack on the run. Their old-school flavor and consistent performance help them earn a top-five spot among the best frozen waffles.

But in terms of being the best of the best? They’re more of a classic crowd-pleaser than a category disruptor.

4. Evergreen Peanut Butter and Banana Bread Mini Waffles

Now, don’t get us wrong. The best frozen waffles don’t have to be good for you, but if they are, it’s always an added bonus!

Evergreen’s Mini Waffles are a little different from most of the other options in the freezer section of your local grocery store. And, that’s not just because of their itty-bitty size — all their mini waffles are made from fruit and veggies, too.

This makes products like the Peanut Butter and Banana Bread Mini Waffles by Evergreen some of the healthiest frozen waffles you can get, bar making them at home yourself. The inclusion of whole wheat flour, real fruit and even hidden healthy vegetables improves the nutritional profile greatly.

This blend also gives the waffles a dense and chewy texture without any unwanted earthy flavors. They even come with 6 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber per three mini waffles.

Despite these positives, the texture was a little bit soggy in the center, even when following precise toasting instructions, so bear that in mind if you're looking for frozen waffles sturdy enough to handle a tower of toppings.

Yet, if you love the flavors of banana bread and want to get some of your daily fruit and vegetables eaten before noon, this is a great product. Its innovativeness also helps the product gain a spot in the top five.

3. Trader Joe’s Whole Grain Waffles

We’re officially down to the top three! In the last podium spot, we found that the whole grain waffles from Trader Joe’s delivered a near-perfect marriage of healthy ingredients and enjoyable flavor.

We liked that these waffles were nearly always available in Trader Joe’s stores around the country and when toasted, they developed a crispiness on the outside and a fluffy center that is characteristic of only the best frozen waffles.

Trader Joe’s had one of the few waffles that truly didn’t taste "healthy" — despite being packed with six grams of fiber per three waffles and only seven ingredients. These were also the best frozen waffles when it comes to absorbing syrup without collapsing into sogginess.

But what’s the downside? Healthy frozen waffles often come with an earthy flavor (and this was certainly the case here), but we found that it wasn’t too overpowering. They were also a little smaller than most frozen waffles but don’t let that fool you.

Since the suggested serving size is three waffles (weighing in at 99 grams compared to the standard 85-gram serving), you might end up feeling overly full or misled by the nutrition label.

Despite small drawbacks, these waffles win extra points for walking the line between indulgence and nutrition. We found Trader Joe’s offering to be some of the best frozen waffles for anyone wanting better ingredients without sacrificing flavor.

2. Banza Homestyle Protein Waffles

The penultimate choice on this list of the best frozen waffles is Banza’s Homestyle Protein Waffles. Why, you ask? Because these waffles venture where few waffles dare to go: the land of chickpeas.

By choosing to swap typical refined wheat flours with chickpeas, these are some of the healthiest frozen waffles you can get your hands on. They’re also gluten-free.

We found that Banza’s waffles had a pleasantly crisp exterior with a surprisingly hearty bite (probably thanks to the ingredients like egg whites, pea protein and avocado oil), and the aroma when they’re toasting is sweet, buttery and warmly reminiscent of a classic diner breakfast.

We liked that the texture didn’t crumble, either, which made them one of the best frozen waffles when you need something that’s sturdy for all your favorite toppings. Plus, they’re one of the top picks for a healthy breakfast, as they have more than twice the protein, three times as much fiber and 35 percent fewer net carbs than the leading waffle brands.

That being said, we found that these waffles are best enjoyed with a generous drizzle of syrup. The interior can be a little dry if you over-toast them, and the chickpea flavor is identifiable if you eat your waffles solo. Still, for those who are gluten-free or looking to sneak more vegetarian-friendly protein into their breakfast, Banza makes a strong contender for the best frozen waffles in the better-for-you category.

1. Kodiak Buttermilk and Vanilla Power Waffles

The jury is in. Looking for the best frozen waffles on the market? Then look no further than Kodiak’s Buttermilk and Vanilla Power Waffles.

Kodiak has held its place as one of the most popular frozen waffle brands on the shelves of grocery stores for quite a while now, and it’s no surprise as to why. We found that the flavor was rich, layered and far more complex than expected from a toaster waffle. In fact, toasting them only enhances the warm buttermilk and natural vanilla notes further.

We also liked that these waffles were both some of the best frozen waffles in the flavor department and some of the healthiest, with an impressive 12 grams of protein per two waffles (which usually comes with an eggy or whey powder flavor — but not this time).

Even the pre-toast smell hinted at their exceptional flavor, reminiscent of a freshly baked vanilla cake. We also liked that the focus on flavor didn’t hinder their solid texture and thickness, which was substantial enough to handle syrup or spreads without turning to mush.

We found that Kodiak’s waffles managed to sidestep common protein waffle pitfalls like dryness or chalkiness, and the combination of balanced sweetness, high protein and real ingredients helped secure their place at the top of this list of the best frozen waffles. While syrup enhances them, they’re just as enjoyable when eaten plain, which is a rare sight in the frozen aisle.

What Are the Best Frozen Waffles?

The best frozen waffles come in many forms, depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re a lover of nostalgia who’s chasing a golden crispiness and a rich flavor, Eggo’s Homestyle Waffles and Kodiak’s Buttermilk and Vanilla Power Waffles are crowd-pleasing classics with dependable texture and taste.

But if you’re after something a little different, the best frozen waffles might be those from Trader Joe’s, Evergreen or Banza, which have all experimented with high-fiber recipes to deliver a more complex flavor profile and keep you feeling full for longer.

Plus, budget-conscious buyers can still enjoy some of the best frozen waffles on the market without sacrificing quality. Great Value’s waffles surprised us with their texture and crispness. We also found that 365 by Whole Foods Market provided a solid middle-ground option that balanced a good price with clean ingredients.

In short, the best frozen waffles are the ones that meet your priorities, whether that’s nutritional value, indulgent flavor, dietary restrictions or just a low-stress breakfast that tastes good with maple syrup.

Plus, if you want to have an endless supply of the best frozen waffles, why not just make them yourself? You can control the ingredients that go into them to perfectly suit your dietary needs, and no checkout assistant will ever clock you for buying a second box in the same week.

Just cook your favorite waffle mix, from blueberry waffles to sourdough waffles, in a waffle iron, let them cool, then freeze them with parchment paper between each one. They reheat in a toaster or oven just like store-bought waffles — no extra effort needed on the day.

What Are the Healthiest Frozen Waffles?

It’s important to note that not all foods have to be “healthy,” and waffles of all sizes and shapes can be included in a healthy diet when you enjoy them in moderation, no matter their ingredients or nutritional value.

However, if you’re thinking of optimizing your mornings with a balanced meal full of protein and fiber — the stepping stones needed to make a meal that gives you long-lasting energy throughout the day — there are some frozen waffles at the store that are better than others for achieving that goal. Top picks in this category include any of the frozen waffles by Banza, Kashi’s Seven-Grain Waffles and even Trader Joe's Whole Grain Waffles.

When searching for the healthiest frozen waffles, also keep the following in mind:

Check Nutritional and Ingredients Labels

One important thing to remember when choosing healthy frozen waffles is to check the nutritional label. Specifically, note how many grams of protein and fiber you’re getting and whether these are from multiple sources or a single source, because multiple sources will come with a bigger range of macronutrients.

The ingredients used are also important. The best frozen waffles for wellness usually feature whole grains like oats, buckwheat or wheat bran. Additionally, they’ll generally have a short ingredients list filled with foods you actually recognize — like fruits, vegetables, eggs and oils like avocado or sunflower.

For example, just check out the ingredients of the Trader Joe’s Whole Grain Waffles: water, whole wheat flour, canola and/or sunflower oil, sugar, soy flour, leavening agent (monocalcium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate) and salt.

No nasties here! Kashi’s Seven-Grain Waffles, Evergreen’s waffles and Banza’s protein-packed chickpea waffles are also some of the best frozen waffles that deliver better nutrition than most products in this category without totally sacrificing flavor. Plus, Banza is a top brand to turn to if you’re looking for gluten-free waffles

Use Healthy Toppings

According to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the toppings you add are just as important as the waffles you choose when trying to eat healthily. Sugary syrups and whipped cream can undo a healthy start to the day.

Instead, try healthy Greek yogurt, fresh fruit, warm applesauce, cinnamon or even toasted pecans. If you want something a little sweeter without lots of processed ingredients, consider making your own toppings as well, like blueberry compote or candied cherries

These additions will even out the nutritional value of the meal, no matter what type of frozen waffles you're using, and will help prevent a sugar crash before midday.

Make Your Own Healthy Waffles

As covered above, you may also find that the best frozen waffles for healthy eating are those you make yourself and freeze for later. Yet, if that isn’t an option, the healthy waffles covered on this list are a great fallback option.

Ultimately, the best frozen waffles are waffles that match your taste, lifestyle and morning routine. Whether you’re chasing convenience, flavor, nutrition or all three, this guide has plenty of golden-brown goodness for everyone.
