The 14 Weirdest Pop Tart Flavors To Try

1. Root Beer

Kicking off our weird Pop Tart flavors list is Root Beer, part of Kellogg’s ‘Soda-Mazing’ collection of beverage-inspired treats. Featuring a filling infused with the almost botanical profile of A&W Root Beer, including vanilla, sassafras and wintergreen notes, the Pop Tart is finished with white frosting and sprinkles.

We have to admit that Root Beer is not one of our favorites, but for those who enjoy a cool glass of the soda, this weird Pop Tart flavor could be a delicious treat. The jury is very much split over whether these Tarts should be eaten warm or cold, but either way, they offer a unique dining experience. You could even pair with ice cream for a root beer float-style Pop Tart sundae.

2. Pumpkin Pie

A seasonally recurring limited edition release, Pumpkin Pie is a top option among weird Pop Tart flavors. It captures all of the gently warming spice of the classic fall season dessert and has a frosted top to add just a touch of sweetness.

We know that some folks like to eat their Pop-Tarts cold, but toasting this one really mellows the taste and sends gorgeous aromas of this classic pumpkin dessert into every corner of your kitchen.

3. Frosted Watermelon

While generally only available online or at specialty stores, Frosted Watermelon is one of the weirdest Pop Tart flavors that's well worth a taste if you can find it. Although many Pop Tarts come in fruit flavors, they’re generally fruits associated with breakfast pastries, such as strawberry and blueberry.

The use of watermelon in a pastry is already somewhat unusual, but the artificial watermelon candy taste adds to the unique flavor profile in a way that doesn’t really work for many. If you love watermelon Jolly Ranchers, this could be a weird Pop Tart flavor you want to track down. If not, you probably won’t mind too much that this limited edition flavor is no longer widely available.

4. Frosted Blue Raspberry

Blueberry and raspberry-flavored Pop Tarts aren’t that difficult to get on board with. In fact, these are some of the most popular Pop Tart flavors. Yet Frosted Blue Raspberry doesn’t really work as well as its berry counterparts.

The zingy flavor of this “berry” leans too artificial. As with Frosted Watermelon, the flavor profile highly resembles candy and doesn’t blend well with the Pop Tart pastry. The bright blue coloring may be off-putting to some as well.

Although difficult to get your hands on as it was a limited edition product, if you enjoy tasting the weirdest Pop Tarts or just love everything blue raspberry, keep an eye out online or at specialty stores for this weird Pop Tart flavor.

5. Frosted Spring No-Chill Sugar Cookie

This limited edition release was re-launched in February 2025 after having been discontinued in 2023. With a vanilla crust and a sugar cookie dough interior, this rare Pop Tart flavor offers a brilliant mix of crunch and chew. Part of the reason behind the popularity of this choice of weird Pop Tart flavors was the addition of funky pictures on the icing.

We were very pleased to see that these fun designs have returned. This time, there are jazzy beachscapes on each Pop Tart, so you can enjoy a little slice of holiday even if your vacation is still months away.

6. Hot Fudge Sundae

Your favorite ice cream-based dessert becomes your new favorite breakfast food idea thanks to this next weird Pop Tart flavor.

One thing’s for sure — you can’t knock the ambition here. Transforming dessert into breakfast is no easy feat, but this is one of the weird Pop Tart flavors that absolutely works.

Combining a creamy vanilla filling with a chocolate pastry shell, this is one of the best strange Pop Tart flavors to eat straight from the freezer. The toaster may be the more traditional option, but we think a frozen Pop Tart is a super treat on a warm day.

7. Frosted Boston Crème Donut

We had our reservations about this next somewhat weird Pop Tart flavor, but it has certainly inspired strong opinions on the internet. Some reviewers love that the flaky crust has a sweet custard filling and a topping of rich chocolate icing.

Others think that the filling is overly sweet and have questioned the Pop Tart’s resemblance to the beloved Boston food on which it’s based. The only thing to do is test this pick of weird flavored Pop Tarts for yourself to see if it's actually unusual or your new favorite.

8. Frosted Wild Berry

Did you know that Pop Tarts were named as a pun on Pop Art, a popular artistic movement at the time the original Pop Tarts were being developed? Looking at our next alternative of weird Pop Tart flavors, we can understand where the inspiration for this one’s design originated.

The vibrantly bright purple frosting features drizzles of electric blue icing to create a visual spectacle that’s worthy of a Warhol or Pollock. How does the taste measure up? Well, the combination of blueberry, raspberry and strawberry has lots of fans, us included.

The mix of berries adds layers of flavors that are arguably missing from just the plain Strawberry or Raspberry Pop Tarts. We love the subtle sweetness from the purple icing, too.

9. Frosted Apple Cinnamon Apple Jacks

Breakfast gets reinvented for breakfast? We’re not sure of the math there, but this surely earns Frosted Apple Cinnamon Apple Jacks a place as one of the best weird flavors of Pop Tarts.

A new release, this selection of weird Pop Tart flavors is based on the popular cereal. If you’re a fan, then you’ll find the apple cinnamon flavor is pretty well reproduced here, although some reviews have stated that the apple flavor could benefit from being stronger.

We found the flavor could be a little flat, but it comes to life when toasted. We loved the colorful orange and green sprinkles on top as well.

10. Frosted Banana Bread

A recently introduced variety, Frosted Banana Bread ranks as one of the top odd Pop Tart flavors, but one that (a lot of) reviewers are loving. Granted, it hasn’t been everyone’s cup of tea, but many taste testers have been passionate about the mellow, lightly spiced banana flavor that replicates the taste of a freshly baked loaf of banana bread.

Other reviewers say that the flavor is too artificial for their tastes. We’ll leave it up to you as to whether turning one breakfast food into another is strange or genius.

11. Maple Bacon

This next item on our list of weird Pop Tart flavors has all of the elements of a classic breakfast combined into a convenient-to-eat pastry envelope. What could be better? Maple Bacon Pop Tarts are made with a cinnamon sugar filling, a frosted topping and a covering of bacon-flavored sprinkles.

Let’s be clear that these are bacon-flavored sprinkles; there’s no actual bacon among the ingredients, but the presence of gelatin in the frosting means that this weird Pop Tart flavor is still unsuitable for vegetarians and vegans.

12. Frosted Grape

If grape jelly is your jam, then you’re going to love our next choice of weird Pop Tart flavors. Grape can be a difficult flavor to pitch correctly, but these Pop Tarts do an excellent job of bringing out the grape taste without veering into overly sweet or syrupy territory.

This is one of the plainer tasting weird Pop Tart flavors on our list, but it doesn’t suffer for that. Fruit fillings, such as classic strawberry, work well with the crispy pastry, making grape a good pick for anyone seeking a bit of variety.

13. Girl Scouts Thin Mints

Some of the strange Pop Tart flavors on our list win their place not for their taste but for the imagination behind them. Case in point, our next addition, which features the taste of the beloved cookie often sold by Girl Scouts.

The base here is a chocolate pastry, which is filled with a chocolatey mint spread and topped with a smooth frosting. Mint can so often steer dangerously close to toothpaste, but this weird Pop Tart flavor manages to balance perfectly. We weren’t convinced on mint for breakfast, but think these are great with a cup of coffee as an afternoon treat.

14. Frosted Lemon Blueberry Crumble

Boasting serious dessert vibes, this pick of weird Pop Tart flavors is a relatively new addition to the Pop Tarts family. Blueberry and lemon is already a tried and tested combination in cakes, pies and baked goods, but is a delicate combination to balance.

In our opinion, this selection of odd Pop Tart flavors gets it bang on. The blueberry is mild, while the lemon adds a nice pinch of zest. The icing brings everything together and the bright pink color with canary yellow sprinkles is sure to brighten your morning.

It’s not clear yet whether this is one of the rare Pop Tart flavors that will hang around. Fan reaction has been positive, but if you don’t want to miss out, we’d recommend grabbing a box or two while you can.

What Is the Weirdest Flavor of Pop Tart?

It’s clear that the imagination of the product development team at Pop Tarts knows no bounds when it comes to weird Pop Tart flavors. Since they were introduced in 1964, the brand has seen hundreds of flavors come and go and huge developments in the way these sweet treats are made and marketed.

Without a doubt, Root Beer has to be among the most distinctive weird flavors of Pop Tart. It's definitely a love it or hate it product with no in between.

If you want something a little weird and different for a breakfast pastry, yet more subtle than Root Beer, Maple Bacon and Pumpkin Pie are excellent weird Pop Tart flavors to try.

There we have it! Our list of weird Pop Tart flavors has explored the curious, the peculiar and the downright delicious. We’ve chewed on toasted Maple Bacon and nibbled on frozen Ice Cream Fudge Sundae, but honestly, we couldn’t choose a favorite among these weird Pop Tart flavors.

Some of the items on our list are limited edition releases and may not stick around for long. Others might become longtime favorites. Either way, the choice of the best weird Pop Tart flavors is totally up to you.
