10 Best Sun Chips Flavors Ranked in 2025
A staple in lunch boxes and pantries across the country, most people have eaten Sun Chips at least once, and almost everyone will have a different opinion on which are the best Sun Chips flavors. The product’s wavy ridges and multigrain crunch have made them instantly recognizable on the snack table, commanding a place among the best chip brands in the country.
According to Purdue University, Americans consume snacks at an average of 1.77 times a day (i.e., most Americans consume one to two snack products each day), and brands like Sun Chips have capitalized on this by offering a unique chip structure and a huge variety of flavors to suit every craving.
In our opinion, Sun Chips have quietly — and reliably — earned their place in the snack hall of fame. But with so many flavors popping up over the years, which ones truly stand out from the pack?
Have you ever found yourself staring at the variety of flavors in the snack aisle, wondering which Sun Chips flavors are worth grabbing and which are just riding the wave of novelty? Well, you’re in luck, because we’ve run the numbers and compiled this list of the most memorable (and most forgettable) Sun Chips offerings.

Sun Chips Flavors List: Top 10 Flavors Ranked
10. Veggie Harvest Tomato, Basil and Cheese
The Veggie Harvest line is relatively new among the Sun Chips flavor lineup, but it’s quickly gaining fans. This line incorporates vegetables and whole grains to make a potato chip that has plenty of crunch and a subtle, earthy flavor.
While it’s always rather exciting to see a new Sun Chips flavor on grocery store shelves, we found that the Veggie Harvest in the Tomato, Basil and Cheese flavor was somewhat off the mark.
It had a good tanginess from the tomatoes and aromatic notes from the basil, but it seriously lacked in the cheese department. We thought these Sun Chips did a pretty good job of replicating that “garden tomato” taste — almost like a bite of a fresh tomato rather than a jarred sauce — but the promise of cheesiness falls flat in execution.
We also liked that the healthy vegetable ingredients gave these chips a more delicate flavor, but if you’re looking for a taste explosion from your chips, you’re better off selecting one of the other Sun Chips flavors from this list.
Additionally, while the dry texture and muted flavor aren’t for everyone, these features do make these chips great for dipping, as they won’t overpower your favorite guacamole or spinach and artichoke dip.
9. Sweet Potato and Brown Sugar
When building a list of the top Sun Chips flavors ranked, we had to consider both the standalone flavor and its widespread popularity. That’s why Sweet Potato and Brown Sugar is ranked lower on this Sun Chips flavors list.
While we liked the warming sweetness, the flavor was only recently released, so it hasn’t won the cult-classic status that some of the other Sun Chips flavors have achieved. But what does this Sun Chips flavor actually taste like?
We found that the chips had a sweetness that’s well-balanced and not overpowering and they’re a pretty good alternative to more savory options if you’re still hankering for something with a lot of crunch.
This sweetness complemented the earthy multigrain flavor typical of all Sun Chips flavors, and it reminded us of traditional stewed sweet potato recipes from around the world, like soetpatats from South Africa or kamote Cue, a popular Filipino food.
8. Honey BBQ
When you’re looking for the best gas station snacks to feed your entourage on a road trip, Honey BBQ is a solid choice among the many Sun Chips flavors. While it’s not typically a top pick among Sun Chips flavors, its balance of smoky, sweet and spicy flavors makes it pretty appealing to most Sun Chips consumers, and it goes great with a whole host of dips from hummus to Buffalo chicken.
We liked that the seasoning was robust, but it felt a little heavy-handed in the sugar department — a recurring theme we saw in the Sun Chips flavor range. As another new-ish option among Sun Chips flavors, Honey BBQ can be a little harder to find on grocery shelves compared to the OGs like French Onion and Harvest Cheddar, but it could be worth grabbing a bag if you can find one.
Barbecue fans will love the lingering spice that follows the brown sugar, though we found that these sweeter chips weren't as popular as their super savory teammates.
7. Original
If you’re after the king dipper for all your snack platters, look no further than the Original Sun Chips flavor. When it comes to simplicity and texture, we liked that the OG flavor focused on letting the chip’s crunchy, multigrain construction shine, with a nutty and toasty flavor from the corn, whole wheat, oats and brown rice.
However, out of all the options on this Sun Chips flavors list, this is certainly the plainest option. We found that the chips were pretty boring by themselves, but this clean and neutral flavor was a great base for a show-stopping dip — we just wished they had more going for them as a standalone snack. While not the most exciting choice among Sun Chips flavors, these were reliably good.
6. Garden Salsa
In sixth place is one of the best Sun Chips flavors to grab if you like tomato-y and cheesy chip flavors: Garden Salsa. We found that this flavor delivered on complexity, but it unfortunately fell short of its full potential. It brings together tomato, onion and cheese in a salsa-meets-nacho combo, and there’s even a touch of spice from some jalapeños.
While not as punchy as some of the other Sun Chips flavors, we liked that this flavor balanced vegetable and cheese notes pretty well, but we would’ve liked more herbaceous notes for it to truly qualify as a garden salsa.
We also found that this flavor had an edge of sweetness that didn’t add anything to the experience. While these certainly aren’t healthy chips, the subtle vegetable flavors give the vibe of something that’s healthy for you, and we thought that Garden Salsa would be a good middle-of-the-road choice for a crowd.
5. Chili Lime
Think of Chili Lime as the Takis of Sun Chips flavors. We found that this flavor was plenty spicy and acidic. But it was a little more muted than other chile and lime flavored chips available on the snack aisle shelves, so they’re perfect if you can’t handle too much heat.
The spice blend includes cumin, black pepper and chile powder, while the acidity comes from real lime juice powder. We liked that the lack of sweetness compared to other varieties helped them feel more savory overall — a nice change of pace within the full range of Sun Chips flavors.
However, there’s a reason why these aren’t closer to the number one spot on this list of the best Sun Chips flavors. Unfortunately for chile lime enthusiasts, this flavor has recently been discontinued from the lineup.
We’re hopeful that this could mean a better and bolder Chili Lime flavor is on the horizon, but for now, we’re stocking up on bags while we can still find them.
4. Black Bean Spicy Jalapeño
Unlike other Sun Chips flavors, the Black Bean Spicy Jalapeño flavor actually features black beans in the chip base, which does a great job at minimizing that sweetness often disliked in Sun Chips flavors.
We liked that there was a genuine punch of spice in these chips, and the citrus notes add a great tang to the flavor. We found that this Sun Chips flavor has a lot more personality than some of the other flavors. Additionally, we couldn’t get enough of the thicker consistency and crunch thanks to the added black beans.
While some people may place Black Bean Spicy Jalapeño higher on their personal list of all the Sun Chips flavors ranked, the only reason we didn’t give this flavor a podium finish is because — for something jalapeño flavored — we found that it could’ve been a little spicier.
With the departure of Chili Lime, this iteration is certainly the spiciest of all the current Sun Chips flavors, but we wanted Takis Fuego levels of heat, which simply weren’t present.
3. French Onion
Now, this might not be the sort of Sun Chips flavor you bring to a first date at the movie theater, but if you like onion-flavored chips, you will absolutely fall head over heels for French onion.
Perhaps the most onion-forward among all the Sun Chips flavors, it’s made from a combination of onion powder and scallions, plus a hint of cheese. The result? A caramelized, soup-like richness that tastes like a mashup between the perfect bowl of French onion soup and an elevated sour cream and onion dip.
We liked that French Onion offered both sweet and savory notes, and the buttery richness gave these chips an undeniable, moreish flavor. However, we also found that these chips lacked some needed tang, so we chose to pair them with a lemon herb dip to round them out a bit better.
2. Harvest Cheddar
Among all the best snacks at Walmart and other big-box grocery chains, few come close to that nostalgic cheddar cheese flavor that the Harvest Cheddar Sun Chips have. Cheetos and Doritos aside, these are the next best thing.
The cheese is sharp and salty — which mutes the signature Sun Chips sweetness — and the wholegrain base complements the indulgent cheese flavor.
Honestly, these chips are downright addictive. The texture is consistently crunchy, and Sun Chips flavors like this one benefit from that lactic tang from the cheese that takes their savoriness to new heights.
This is one of the most universally beloved Sun Chips flavors and rightly so; harvest cheddar is a safe and satisfying choice in everything from lunch boxes to picnic snack platters.
1. Black Bean Southwestern Queso
Not too sweet? Check. Cheesy and crunchy? Check. Just the right amount of spice? Check. Black Bean Southwestern Queso being the best of all the Sun Chips flavors you can grab? Triple check!
Just like its sister flavor, Black Bean Spicy Jalapeño, this Sun Chips flavor has that same irresistible texture and flavor from the black beans incorporated into the chip base, and the earthy richness is complemented by plenty of spicy and cheesy seasonings.
If you love a punchy flavor from your chips, then this is the flavor for you. The combination of cheddar, chipotle and buttermilk gives this variety the vibe of a perfect queso dip. Additionally, the complexity of the flavors alone easily bags it the top spot on this list of the greatest Sun Chips flavors.
We liked that the flavor didn’t taste artificial or overwhelming, and it also brought plenty of acidity to balance out the spicy and rich flavors. Enjoyed solo or scooped into your favorite dips and salsas, there are few Sun Chips flavors as consistently five-star as this.
