Cooking Class - The Art of Pickling

Discover how to preserve and pickle fruits and vegetables in this hands-on workshop.

Preserving fresh fruits and vegetables is the ideal way to preserve the bounty of a season to enjoy throughout the year. Chef Kelly strips away the intimidation factor by teaching you the fundamental techniques for how to create fermented and vinegar-brined pickles.

The ingredients you’ll learn to preserve vary seasonally, but the techniques can be applied to many different kinds of produce from green beans to carrots and pears. Plus, you’ll take home two jars of pickles made in class, a canning utensil kit, a bag of McVicker Pickles’ special spice blend and a list of recipes and resources for you to practice preserving at home.

I really enjoyed attending Chef Kelly's class. Not only is her home cozy, but I love how knowledgeable she is about pickling and creating jams. You can tell she is extremely passionate about it, and that really makes the class 10x more fun! I learned so much that day and I look forward to taking her next class.

I grew up in rural Kansas, where food preservation traditions were strong. Both of my grandmas taught me how to make jams, pickles, sauces--and how to preserve them all for a well-stocked cellar. I love sharing my passion for food preservation with other people. Seeing people get excited about their first jar of sauerkraut, or hearing from someone who caught the 'canning bug' and began making jams for all their holiday gifts is what I love most about this job!
