WHAT YOU’LL DO

Work together to roll decorative sushi with a hidden picture inside, using traditional Japanese techniques.

Bring your team together for a colorful, hands-on sushi challenge in this team building activity led by Chef Hiroyo. Kazari maki-zushi is the Japanese art of rolling sushi that hides a picture inside – slice the roll open and a flower or character appears in the cross-section, a result that looks impressive but is genuinely achievable for everyone.

Working in small groups, your team will learn the traditional saiku and futomaki techniques, laying down components in just the right order before rolling once to reveal the design. No sushi experience is needed, and the shared surprise of cutting the rolls open together makes for a memorable, collaborative experience. You'll finish by tasting the creations you made as a team.
