What You’ll Do

Rich cuisine inspired by Spain's Galicia region.

Spain, like many other countries, is a place filled with vast influences throughout history. The effects of these are seen directly in the fare of each distinct area, and the Galicia region is no exception. Learn from Chef Jose Luis, a native of Spain himself, the intricacies of this region-specific cuisine, who will then teach you how to create the dishes for which this area is famous. You’ll create a wonderfully varied meal featuring scallops, sole made with white wine indigenous to the area, wild mushrooms and more. Eat and cook like a Galician, and bring a few new intriguing recipes home.

I was born in Seville, Spain and raised in Barcelona. At the age of 20 I came to California, where I started cooking Spanish food for friends. When I was 30, I opened my first restaurant in Portola Valley. After 16 years, I moved the restaurant to Menlo Park, where it has a shady patio, a cozy bar de tapas with fireplace, a wood-paneled banquet room, and a wine library. I look forward to teaching you to prepare my country's cuisine in this beautiful space.

We booked a Spanish Paella cooking class with Jose Luis and loved every second of it. Everyone is already looking forward to the next cooking class. Thank you Jose Luis and Cozymeal!

Jose Luis is the best! He's full of jokes and stories and his tapas are fantastically flavorful. It's impossible not to fall in love with the datiles endiablados--bacon wrapped chorizo! Jose Luis has a gorgeous restaurant space and he is so generous and talented. Definitely can't wait to go back.

It was an absolute pleasure learning to make tapas with Chef Jose Luis. He's a super friendly, very funny guy with a ton of knowledge about Spanish cooking. His space is beautiful as well -- from the traditional English-style pub, modeled after his days in England and decorated with photos of his dogs, to the Mediterranean-style patio, the whole place is comfortable and welcoming.
