Cooking Class - Classic Homemade Gumbo
Gumbo is a classic dish that represents the meeting of three cultures — African, Native American and European — and features ingredients that are easy to source in New Orleans, such as seafood, meat, vegetables and spices.
One of the stars of gumbo is okra. When cooked, it produces a thick, rich broth. The other must-have ingredient is dried and ground sassafrass leaves used by Native American cooks. Accompanied by Creole corn cakes for an appetizer, and topped off with bananas foster for dessert, this meal is a celebration of New Orleans culture and history.
Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during the class.
