Discover the simple, time-honored traditions and techniques used to craft authentic, impressive Japanese seafood dishes.

In this hands-on class with Chef Ryan, you'll get a better understanding of Japanese cuisine, including the traditional techniques and artful balancing of flavors, as you learn to prepare a four-course Japanese meal.

You'll begin by learning how to bring out incredible flavors in a refreshing cucumber salad, and how to create the perfect snow crab roll. Chef Ryan will also help you add shioyak — Japanese for “salt-grilled” — to your repertoire as you master a technique that results in a beautiful seafood entree with an umami-rich crust and a crispy skin.

Guests are welcome to bring wine and beer to enjoy during the class.

After graduating culinary school, Chef Ryan found himself working in some of the best sushi bars in California. Ten years later, after making a name for himself, Chef Ryan was ready for a new challenge. After winning a competition, he opened his own restaurant with two friends who share his same passion for Japanese cuisine, perfecting their craft, and food philosophy hinged on traditional techniques with modern flavors.

Chef Ryan in my book gets 5 stars. Our experience learning to make sushi was all we expected and more. Worth every penny. He was personable, knowledgeable and made the evening great fun for all of us. The dishes he made for us to accompany the 3 kinds of sushi rolls he taught us to make were delicious. We all wanted the recipes. We hope to do this again with other friends.
