Online Cooking Class - Japanese Maki Rose Sushi

Roll up whimsical maki flower sushi in this hands-on sushi-making class perfect for your valentine.

Prepare rose-like maki sushi rolls to celebrate Valentine's Day in this online sushi-making class with Chef Kumi. She will guide you through the process of preparing the rolls, from making the sushi rice, to prepping the smoked salmon filling, to rolling the final product. To accompany your sushi, you'll also prepare smoked salmon rolled with thin egg and a crunchy red radish salad topped with umami-laden bonito flakes.

Prep Work Details

Wash the rice with clean water and drain the rice. Repeat the process a few times then place the rice in a pot which you're going to cook rice. Pour the correct quantity of water mentioned in the recipe and soak the rice for 15-20 minutes before the class. (We’ll cook the rice together in the class.)

Since graduating from college in the U.S. and culinary school in Switzerland, Chef Kumi’s craving for a deeper understanding of local food cultures led her to spend the past 20 years living and working in several countries in Asia.
