Cooking Class - Fundamental Japanese Sauces

What You’ll Do

Discover the building blocks of traditional Japanese cuisine in this exciting and exotic culinary experience.

In this hands-on class, Chef Matt will teach you how to prepare a four-course Japanese menu built on the fundamental sauces that are used in everyday Japanese cooking.

There are five elements that form the foundation of all Japanese sauces, which are known as Sa, Shi, Su, Se, and So. These translate to sugar, salt, vinegar, soy, and miso. These are used alone or in combination in traditional Japanese cuisine, known as washoku, which you'll discover enhance the natural flavors of the ingredients in your dishes rather than modify them.

Guests are welcome to provide wine and beer to enjoy during the class.

This was for a 50th anniversary dinner. Matt was a joy to have in our home. His food had layers of flavor. The food was fantastic. Each dish had something extra from Matt's stash of seasonings. To top it off, dessert came from a relative's recipe (but of course with Matt's own spin) which just shows you how good Matt is and how relatable he is. This was the exact experience we were looking for. Thank you many times over!
