FAQS ABOUT FOOD TOURS in NYC
How do food tours in NYC work?
Booking food tours in NYC is a simple case of finding a tour that piques your interest, setting the number of guests and selecting a date. When it comes to the tour itself, all you need to do is meet your guide at a designated spot — be it in Queens, Brooklyn or Manhattan — and allow them to lead you through the city’s best culinary hotspots.
Along the way, you’ll visit between four and six stops. Usually, the menu items at each stop will have been pre-ordered, meaning you don't need to wait in line to order your food. And while each tour is different, you can usually expect your tour to take between two and three hours.
Do food tours accommodate vegetarians or other dietary needs?
Eating tours in NYC are for everybody. Most stops along the way offer alternative options to suit specific dietary requirements. However, this is never guaranteed and depends on the specific stops planned for the tour you’ve chosen to take.
Each tour guide curates menu items in order to give guests the best possible taste of the city. And while you are, of course, welcome to skip certain cuisines, it’s worth knowing that your guide will be happy to build a menu that aligns with any dietary requirements. For help tailoring the tour to your palate and preferences, just reach out to our Concierge team who’ll be happy to help with any special requests.
Are food tours family-friendly?
NYC food tours can provide an exciting experience for families, even those with small children. However, it’s worth bearing in mind that most food tour tasting menus are curated for adults. What’s more, there is usually a fair amount of walking involved, depending on the tour you decide to take.
If you’re unsure whether certain tours would be suitable for your family, you are always welcome to reach out to our Concierge team. They’ll be delighted to help find an experience that’s better suited to smaller stomachs!
How much do food tours cost?
Culinary tours in NYC typically cost between $59 and over $100 per person, however, this is just a guide. The actual price you’ll pay is likely to vary based on a few factors.
The number of guests in your party is one, since experience prices are tiered based on group size. The type of tour you book is also likely to have an impact, with those focused on higher end restaurants likely to cost more than others.
You can get a rough idea of cost by viewing the per-person starting price on your chosen tour’s web page. For more in-depth assistance, you directly reach out to our Concierge team to learn more.
Is there enough to eat on the tour?
If you’re planning on taking one of the best food tours in NYC, don’t be tempted to grab a bite before your tour begins. Given the scale of The Big Apple’s culinary scene, we always recommend bringing your appetite!
Don’t forget, there are usually between four and six stops per tour, each offering its own unique taste of the city. From belly-busting bagels and sumptuous slices of pizza to decadent doughnuts and so much more, when you take foodie tours in NYC, you’re unlikely to go hungry for long.
What happens if there’s bad weather?
If you’re only in the city for a few days and are worried about the grey outlook on your weather app, fear not. Most food tours run as normal on the scheduled date, come rain or shine.
Of course, if you have a change of plans or need to cancel, we understand that this happens. You can review the specific cancellation policy for your experience on your chosen tour’s event page. However, if you book an event that’s due to take place in less than 48 hours, please bear in mind that the cost is non-refundable.
How much do you tip the food tour guide?
When you book NYC food tours, you are under absolutely no obligation to tip your guide. However, we understand that you might still wish to. After all, it’s a wonderful way to thank them for helping you get under the skin of New York’s culinary scene, one for which your guide is sure to be incredibly grateful.
If you do decide to tip, the amount is up to you. If you’re unsure how much to give, we usually recommend between 10% and 25% of the total experience cost.
