Learn to prepare a delicious feast of Southern favorites.
In this Southern cooking class, you'll learn to make the popular dish braised (or 'smothered') chicken thighs, and a variety of sides -- macaroni and cheese (which Chef Tené spices up with gruyère cheese), sautéed sugar snap peas, and easy homemade dinner rolls. For dessert you'll learn the delicious classic sweet potato pie. Chef Tené will be happy to tell you a bit of background about each of the dishes, as well as the history of the West Adams district in which she lives and teaches.

Chef Tene is a Southern girl after my own heart. Her courses start when she puts a picture of her Great Grandparents up in the kitchen to honor where her love of food began. She then shares all the secrets of Southern Fried Chicken and candied yams with such grace and kindness that you wish the evening would never end. Each dish is more delicious than the last and Chef Tene makes it all look like just the simplest thing in the world. Highly recommended.

Chef Tené is very knowledgeable about food and Southern cooking, and such a patient and nice teacher! She explains everything as she cooks, and is completely open for questions about everything. She taught me all about the dishes for the class, as well as about the history and architecture of the neighborhood. Highly recommended!

Chef Tene gave my 13 year old daughter and 4 of her friends an amazing experience and absolutely delicious meal. They especially loved they way she wove her family history into her recipes, and provided many small tips that they're all excited to bring into their cooking. She is a beautiful person and we'll definitely ask her back for more southern favorites. Thank you, Tene!
Baking has been a passion of mine since my very young days baking with my mom and my grandmother in Texas. My meals and my desserts are full of the flavors, love, and stories of my family. My great-great-grandparents were entrepreneurs and self-taught business owners, so the legacy of small business is in my DNA. I look forward to passing on my knowledge to you!
