Chef Shan

Chef Shan was absolutely phenomenal, with her wonderful daughter as an assistant. With over 60 years of Indian cooking experience, you can’t go wrong. The food was phenomenal, and I don’t think it could have been a better atmosphere.

We had an incredible experience with Chef Shan! She was so knowledgeable, kind, engaging, thoughtful, and fun. We felt like true guests in her home. The food was delicious and she gave us practical advice on how to replicate it for ourselves. She also shared amazing stories with us about her life. It was an awesome experience and one we would highly recommend!

She is a very nice lady with a great experience! Definitely recommend.

Chef Shan was very warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped into her home. We had never done one of these classes before, and I was worried going in that it would feel like an artificial "experience". With Chef Shan, I got none of that. It was like meeting and spending an evening in a friend's mom's kitchen. She walked us through every step in preparing the meal and answered all of our questions. Of course, the food was delicious. It was flavorful and healthy, and tasted even better after sitting in the building aromas while she cooked. While we ate, we talked about her life and our lives. I can't stress enough, this felt nothing like a class or a lecture. Instead, it felt like meeting an interesting person who prepares you a wonderful meal.

My boyfriend and I had the best evening! Chef Shan was a great teacher and made the night super fun. Plus, the food was amazing. We are going to try and recreate it another night! Highly recommend!

Chef Shan was a great instructor and facilitated a fun, interactive dinner. Her kitchen is a nice open setup with the range on the island with seating for 8 which made it easy to view her preparation and steps. The other couples/groups in the class were fun to meet. One couple brought wine and shared it which definitely added to the evening. Chef Shan supplies water, but I'd definitely recommend bringing along your own drink. The food was delicious and I think we can easily make the meal again at home.

We had a wonderful evening learning from Shan in her beautiful home. She is a wonderful teacher and has led such an incredible life. We enjoyed every minute of our time together and left knowing that we could replicate this delicious meal at home any night of the week. She shared many tips for how to cut down prep time, how to correct for any seasoning mistakes (it should be noted that her seasoning was perfect on the first try), and how to substitute ingredients to change things up. We also bought a copy of her book! Thank you so much, Shan. ❤️

Really friendly great class

Our class with Chef Shan was so much fun. She was very knowledgeable and the food was delicious. She welcomed us into her kitchen and made us feel like family. Her stories of the history of culture made the experience even better. We look forward to the chance to cook with Chef Shan again.

I had such a wonderful time with Chef Shan. She taught us how to make the most delicious meal. My favorite part was learning about Basmati rice. She was so incredibly kind and funny, and made myself and all the other guests feel like part of her family. She was very thoughtful and made sure we knew "her life is an open-book", she told us wonderful stories about her culture and her food. I will absolutely do another Cozymeal one day because of this experience. 10/10!

Friendly, informative, cozy

Chef Shan was warm and welcoming. She is a true master of her craft and you can taste the difference in her food because it's made with love and all natural, fresh ingredients. I learned about the unique spices, cooking techniques, and it was very interactive. I also was able to mingle with other students in the class which made the environment organic and light. The food was so delicious and I felt energized after eating the tasty dishes. I highly recommend this class and have already shared it with all my friends and colleagues.

Chef Shan is incredible in the kitchen and a delight to watch and chat with. She truly understands her recipes and ingredients, and her focus on healthy cooking (that certainly tastes like it shouldn’t be, in the best way!) was a pleasant surprise. No question felt too small, and overall, she made us feel like we were learning in the kitchen from family.

Read previous reviews they are accurate in the personality of chef Shan. The experience itself was one of a personal dinner party. I felt at home once she required me to interact with the spices and stirring of the sauce. The care and compassion for her story about home in India was displayed simply in the meal. She did not over complicate the meal. I felt as if my mother had cooked a home cooked meal for me and my wife. It was an experience that I could repeat at home. We did purchase a cookbook for memories. If you need a quick cozy date night this is something I recommend. If you are trying to be interactive with Indian cuisine try a cooking school or more comprehensive class.

I absolutely loved Chef Shan. She taught us so much about the food and its roots and the country’s history in general! Her kitchen was beautiful, and she had all the tools ready for us to get cooking immediately, but not before she taught us the proper way to Cook everything. It was like cooking with a new friend! It was the best homemade meal I have had in a very long time -please don’t tell my mom that :) I recommend this to any date nights or nights out with friends. I didn’t want the night to end. I hope to meet her again.

We enjoyed our class with Chef Shan this past weekend. It was a group of 6. She was funny, charming and very great as an instructor. She really helped us understand the art of Indian cuisine and spices. The meal was absolutely lovely and well balanced with wonderful flavors. I would recommend her to anyone who loves Indian and would like to learn more. There is a book she has written and a tin of fresh spices you can buy. We will do it again. Robert & Justine

Chef Shan is amazing! Took a star because for some reason the booking had 4 guests instead of 2 and was told more food was purchased. I had not idea the booking showed her something different as I was only charged for two people.

Chef Shan was so welcoming and insightful on authentic Indian cuisine! This was probably the best Indian food I've ever had and I'm so happy with the feeling that I walk away with some new skills!

Chef was great, very welcoming and hospitable. We were a bit disappointed because it was advertised as a cooking class, but we really didn’t learn how to cook Indian food. All ingredients were already prepped when we got there and we didn’t really help cook the food. We pretty much just sat there and watched her cook. The food was delicious but I don’t feel like I learned how to make any of it.

We had a wonderful time. Chef Shan was great, I'll use everything she taught us. I can't wait to try the recipies at home. I would highly recommend her class.

What an experience! Chef Shan was not only welcoming in her home but also happy to tell us about her life and we felt so welcome and cared for the entire time. We learned some secrets to an Indian cooking we have never heard of from any of the many recipes or other cookbooks we have read. She went over techniques, options, and how to make the cuisine work for you. What a treat!

I bought this cooking class for my mom for Christmas and it was worth every penny. Chef Shan welcomed us to her home and taught us the true art of Indian cooking. She introduced us to culture while guiding us through the meal and the food was delicious!

My wife and I attended this class as a part of her birthday celebration. We have been to a number of cooking classes in several states and countries (we enjoy connecting to locations through food). This was by far the warmest and tastiest class we have ever attended. We felt like we were gathered around Chef Shans family kitchen vs. in a sanitized course. We learned cooking tips (the rice cooking tips will be used from now on), met wonderful people who shared amazing stories, learned several new approaches to cooking, and ate the best Indian food we have ever had. I wish I could give this course more than five stars

I booked a vegetarian course with Chef Shan for my girlfriend and I, and we had an absolute blast. She was very good at what she does and is very much a people person. She knows how to keep a conversation going. If you are thinking about giving this a shot but are on the fence or skeptical, I highly recommend taking the leap of faith.

Chef Shan was wonderful! We were in a group with two other couples and everyone made sure to practice safety measures due to the virus. There were a couple of vegetarians in the group so Chef Shan made sure to make both veg and non-veg dishes. She was very thorough in explaining her process from preparing ingredients to putting them together to make different dishes. Her food was excellent and had a great home-cooked flavor whether it was veg or non-veg. I learned new methods and recipes that I wouldn't have been able to without her hands-on class. She also offers a spice tiffin with hand ground spices and a cookbook for sale. I ended up purchasing her cookbook and have already learned more about Indian cooking since the class. I'll definitely be trying out more of her delicious recipes and would attend one of her classes again.

Chef Shan's food was delicious. The chicken biryani was tender, full of flavor and paired nicely with the channa masala. She even makes her own yogurt to add to each dish, who knew?! Everything about her food screamed "from scratch" as you can't get these aromatic flavors even in the best Indian restaurants in Atlanta.
