Cooking Class - 3-Day Foodie Fun Kids: Global Fare

What You’ll Do

A wonderful educational experience aimed at teaching and inspiring future foodies to love the kitchen.

Kids aged 7-11 will delight in these summer cooking classes aimed at building confidence and gaining new skills. Led by chef instructors, groups of young chefs will enjoy culinary lessons and hands-on practice, starting with the basics of kitchen safety and knife skills and then working their way up to creating iconic recipes from around the globe. They will combine fresh produce, herbs and meat for a savory filling for steamed buns from Asia or work up a sweat-kneading scratch-made pasta dough until it's the perfect consistency.

Classes typically run for two to two and a half hours, unless specified otherwise. Group work is a key component; kids can expect to collaborate with four other students. The class involves standing, cooking and active participation throughout. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are required and long hair should be securely tied back for safety. Please note that these are drop-off classes. Parents do not stay during the classes.

The experience was marketed as 'romantic Italian evening', and while the cooking experience was okay, the experience wasn't very romantic. Our chef was fine- she was obviously knowledgeable, and taught us skills and tricks we didn't know before- but she was a bit brash and had a personality that we weren't expecting for our evening. It definitely wasn't 'romantic', and looking back if we wanted something more intimate we should have gone with a private chef, or a different location. There was another couple for our class, which we weren't expecting. They were lovely, and good cooking mates, but I expected to have the experience just for us, so having another couple there was surprising. The food was okay- our salad was delicious and we will make again. The scampi was just okay- but it was nice to make the pasta from scratch and see how easy it really is to do. The desert was simply a fancy-named apple pie. Overall everything we just fine. We'll probably try again, but we're not racing out to book another experience.

The class was very good. I bought the Pasta attachment for my Kitchen Aid. Excited to start making homemade pasta!
