Cooking Class - 5-Day Foodie Fun Kids: Baking Basics - Murray

What You’ll Do

Bake away in this fun and interactive summer cooking series created just for budding chefs.

Foodies ages 7-11 learn baking essentials in this cooking series. Spend five days in summer cooking classes practicing the basics of baking sweet and savory goodies. Participants work alongside a professional chef while mixing dough, twisting it into soft pretzels and practicing other culinary skills. The course covers basic food prep, kitchen tools and essential safety measures. The series culminates with a baking challenge where kids create something special using a photo and a basic recipe for reference. Printed menus and a graduation certificate are handed out upon course completion.

Classes typically run for two to two and a half hours, unless specified otherwise. Group work is a key component; kids can expect to collaborate with four other students. The class involves standing, cooking and active participation throughout. Comfortable, closed-toe shoes are required and long hair should be securely tied back for safety. Please note that these are drop-off classes. Parents do not stay during the classes.

The class was so much fun and we enjoyed it. The only think we wish could have been a bit better for the price was if there was a little bit more supervision/personalized tips from the assistants to help us make sure our bread actually came out well. Our focaccia ended up being uneven and not well browned when other group’s were, so we wished they gave us more individual tips as we went

Everything tasted great and the chef instructor was kind and fun, but we felt the food presentation was very different from what was advertised in the photos for the class. I was looking forward to learning some upscale plating techniques as was pictured and that aspect of the final product was a little underwhelming. I think it would be better to use more representative photos of what you will actually make in the class instead of something that is quite different.
